Working with influencers on Instagram is a great way to grow your brand's awareness, following, and engagement. But there's a right way and a wrong way! We're chatting in this week's episode about how to build authentic relationships with influencers, how to go about collaborating, and our best practices for getting your Instagram content shared by other accounts.
Problem: Ever wonder how to get accounts on social media to pay attention to you, collaborate with you, or maybe even share your content. Growing a following can be frustrating, but a little help from some influential friends can give you a bit of a boost, and we’re going to share three-steps to take to build relationships with influencers and brands.
Step 1: Give more than you ever expect to receive: like, comment, send DMs in response to stories (this has worked for Steph so well- just starting a conversation), share their content in stories, Follow Fridays- be their advocate!
If they notice and follow you- cool! If not- don’t get upset. A lot of these accounts have a lot going on and get hundreds of comments. If they never end up following you, don’t get offended. People don’t owe us anything!
Plus how do you like people giving you things with strings attached? Only comment or share if you truly want to! Not because you’re trying to manipulate.
Step 2: Create content they can share: Buy their product (if applicable) and take images for them to share (either for a story or in their feed)
This won’t work if people don’t share other people’s content, so do your homework.
Make sure you’re using any branded hashtags that they have, tag their account in your pic.
Uhhh-the images need to be quality- especially if you want them to share your image in their feed.
Once again- don’t get hurt if people don’t share. People don’t owe you anything!
They’re running a business and they have to run it how they think is best. They can’t be faulted for that.
And don’t forget local shops- this might be so much more strategic for your business.
It’s not about getting in front of the most people, it’s about getting in front of the right people!
Again followers don’t = money but the right followers do!
It can be easier to make relationships with peeps at the same level or slightly larger than you. But again only do it if it’s genuine.
Step 3: If relationship building is going well, and a collab opportunity makes sense- ask! You have not because you ask not.
Guest blog- ask people to blog for you. Stop just asking to get on their website!
So you can either seem like a pushy, noisy, leech (yes- leech!) or you can let these relationships build organically.
Even having an influencer follow you, like your images and comment is rewarding. When someone with a large following comments on your images, you get algorithm points!
